Plagiarism Policy

The Jurnal Hukum Saraswati (JHS) maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward plagiarism. When plagiarism is identified in any manuscript submitted to the journal, specific actions will be taken in accordance with the journal’s ethical standards.

Plagiarism is defined as the use or close imitation of the language and ideas of another author and the presentation of them as one’s own original work. All submitted manuscripts must be original, unpublished, and not under consideration elsewhere. Any material taken verbatim from another source must be clearly identified through (1) indentation, (2) quotation marks, and (3) proper citation. Text exceeding fair use limits or any reproduced graphic material requires written permission from the copyright holder and, where possible, acknowledgment of the original author(s) and source.

All submitted manuscripts are screened for similarity using Turnitin. When potential plagiarism is detected, the Managing Editor, in consultation with the editorial team, will determine the appropriate course of action based on the level of similarity, in accordance with the following guidelines:

  • Similarity Index above 40%: The manuscript is rejected outright due to extensive plagiarism, poor citation practices, or inadequate paraphrasing. No resubmission is permitted.
  • Similarity Index between 20% and 40%: The manuscript is returned to the author for substantial revision. Authors are required to correct citations and improve paraphrasing across all sections with detected similarity.
  • Similarity Index below 20%: The manuscript may be accepted, although minor citation or paraphrasing improvements may still be required.

For cases falling under categories (2) and (3), authors must carefully revise the manuscript, ensure accurate citation of all sourced material, and apply appropriate paraphrasing. The revised manuscript must be resubmitted together with an updated Turnitin similarity report demonstrating a similarity index of less than 20%.
