Abstract

This article analyzes verbs with the meaning of praying in Balinese according to semantic studies using Natural Semantic Metalanguage (NSM) theory. The data were obtained by using literature review and interviews with listening and note-taking techniques which were sourced from articles, Balinese language books and informants. The data analysis method uses the padan method and agih method by classifying the data, analyzing the semantic structure, and describing the semantic components to produce a configuration of meaning. The results of the analysis show that the lexicon ngastawa, mapuja, masaa, nyonteng, dan ngastiti, are verbs that mean praying in Balinese. The semantic structures that distinguish between lexicon are actors, language, and instrument.
