EFEKTIVITAS FILTER BIOCHAR TERAKTIVASI Mg²⁺ DALAM PENYISIHAN AMONIUM DARI AIR LIMBAH DOMESTIK

Air limbah domestik mengandung nitrogen dalam bentuk amonium (NH4+) yang berpotensi menurunkan kualitas perairan apabila tidak diolah secara memadai. Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis efektivitas sistem filtrasi biochar teraktivasi magnesium (Mg2+) dalam menyisihkan amonium dari air limbah domestik menggunakan reaktor aliran ke atas (upflow) yang terdiri atas empat kompartemen yang tersusun secara seri. Biochar biomassa kayu diaktivasi dengan larutan MgCl2 untuk meningkatkan adsorpsi dan sistem dioperasikan selama enam hari pada debit 100 mL/menit. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa konsentrasi NH4+ influen berfluktuasi pada kisaran 27,74–42,73 mg/L, sedangkan konsentrasi efluen relatif rendah dan stabil pada rentang 1,19–1,89 mg/L. Efisiensi penyisihan pada kompartemen akhir mencapai 94,28–96,53%, yang menunjukkan kemampuan sistem filtrasi efektif dalam menyisihkan NH4+ selama periode operasi. Efektivitas dipengaruhi oleh perpanjangan waktu kontak dalam sistem seri serta mekanisme pertukaran ion, interaksi elektrostatik, dan jembatan ionik oleh Mg2+ pada permukaan biochar. Secara keseluruhan, sistem menunjukkan efisiensi tinggi (>90%) dan stabil selama operasi, dengan tiga kompartemen telah memadai untuk mencapai kinerja optimal.
