Abstract

Abstract
This study aims to describe the form of hate speech in the comments of Facebook account users on the
video speech which was viral because it offended the Balinese Hindu community. The data source used
is the comments of Facebook account users about the video speech delivered by Desak Made
Darmawati which is widely circulated on social media, especially in Facebook. The method used in
collecting the data is documentation with note taking technique. The data were analyzed qualitatively
using Coulthard and Johnson's theory of Forensic linguistics (2007), Chaer's (1990) theory of
semantics and Searle's (1983) theory of speech act. In general, this research wants to show how the
current language of social media users in expressing forms of hate speech towards something. The
results obtained are that there are four forms of hate speech in the comments of Facebook account users
about the contents of the speech video found such are; (1) provocative form of hate speech, (2) hate
speech in the form of insult, (3) hate speech in the form of defamation, and (4) ) hate speech in a form
of defamation. Based on the results of the analysis, the use of hate speech in the form of provocative
and insulted dominates in this video with the types of illocutionary speech acts, namely directive and
expressive because in the Facebook users’ comments, they express their anger and ask the speaker in
the speech to be careful in providing information to the general public about Hinduism which she does
not really understand. This video tells the life journey of a speaker who was originally Hinduism and
moved to Islam.
