Abstract

Abstract
Covid-19 pandemics have been widely spread all over the world, including Japan. In order to
countermeasure the infection. The public service advertisements related to the prevention of Covid-19
were promoted. This research aims to analyse the speech acts in the Kyoto prefecture Covid-19
prevention animated advetisements. The data were collected using observation method with uninvolved
conversation technique. They were analysed using identity method and pragmatics distribution
technique. Speech acts theory by Yule (2006) were used in this research. The results show that there
are three kinds of speech acts used in the advertisements, namely representative, directive, and
commissive. Representative is used to explain the spreading facts about Covid-19. Directive is to advise
people to social distancing and using mask in public places. Commissive is to promise self to obey the
rules during pandemics.
