INTERELASI PENGGUNAAN METAFORA DAN CITRAAN DENGAN PENGGUNAAN SIMBOL DALAM LAGU CARDIGAN OLEH TAYLOR SWIFT DALAM ALBUM FOLKLORE

Abstract

This paper entitled Interrelation Between the Use of Metaphor and Imagery with the Symbols in Cardigan Song by Taylor Swift within the Folklore Album is a qualitative descriptive research focusing on the content analysis of the data source in the form of lyric and video clip. It aims to investigate the function of the visual symbol or signs found in the video clip related to the use of metaphors and imagery as well as symbol in the lyric of this song. The data were analyzed by a theory of Symbolism and Communication about Messages, Signs, and Meanings written by Danesi (2004). This research results in discovering the relation among the metaphors, signs, and symbols used in the lyric to strengthen the message of the song. Besides, symbols are also used in the video clip of this song as a backdrop for the time and journey of the song's ideas.
