Abstract

The research entitled "Procedures for Translation of Balinese Culture-Loaded Words in Japanese Social Media Posts", discusses the lexicons of traditional Balinese culture in posts on Japanese-language social media. The purpose of this study: (1) to analyze the equivalent words of Balinese culture in Japanese which are found in Instagram posts on the JTB Bali account, (2) to describe the procedures used in the process of translating Balinese culturally charged words into Japanese. The relatively large and varied lexicon of Balinese traditional culture is the wealth possessed by the Balinese people. This is directly proportional to the development of Balinese culture and arts that support Bali tourism, so that it becomes a special attraction for the world community, especially Japan. Data collection is done by literature study. Words containing Balinese culture found in JTB Bali Instagram posts are melasti, galungan, nyepi, ogoh-ogoh, odalan, and penjor. The strategy used is finding equivalents through searching documents, both print and online; and the procedures taken are transference, cultural matching, descriptive translation, and couplet. From these findings it can be concluded that in translating culturally charged words a good understanding of the source text, as well as cultural terms in the source language (SL) and target language (TL) is required.
