TRANSLATION ACCEPTABILITY IN A PRAGMATIC PERSPECTIVE

Translation acceptability from a pragmatic perspective refers to the translation that meets the communication objective in a given context. Translation acceptability does not only focus on the linguistic features of a text but also the cultural and social factors. The translation must effectively convey the source text's intended meaning while considering the target audience's linguistic and cultural norms. This paper will discuss translation acceptability based on politeness theory in pragmatics. It will use the tourism text as the data since a tourism text has a communication function to persuade the tourist. In measuring the politeness of translation, the translator must consider the context of utterance, the intended meaning of the utterance, and the violation of maxims. Translators also consider the potential effects of their translation choices on the target audience. Translation acceptability in pragmatics requires an understanding of the communicative goal. It involves accurately conveying the message of the source text and adapting it to the social and cultural context of the target audience.
