Abstract

Children's psychological problems are greatly influenced by their parents' upbringing. For this reason, it is necessary to know about the types of parenting styles and their role in children's mental health. This is because parents are the closest environment to children. Everything that parents do and give influences the development of their child. The research method used is a qualitative exploratory method with literature study data collection techniques. The results of the study are that there are several types of parenting styles, including authoritative, authoritarian, permissive and not involved/ignoring. Parenting style and children's mental health are related to one another. Parents' demands and children's behavioral responses have different impacts on children's social-emotional development, which has profound implications for children's mental health. Of the many types of parenting, authoritarian parenting is a parenting style that can interfere with a child's mental health meanwhile, authoritative parenting can guarantee that children's mental health develops properly.
