Abstract

This study describes the translation procedure applied to the translation of Japanese folklore entitled kobutori jiisan to be a grandfather with a lump on the cheek. This research is qualitative descriptive research. The method used in this study is the translational method. The results showed that translators use five translation procedures in translating this folklore. The five translation procedures are transposition, modulation, deletion, addition, and cultural equivalent. The removal and addition translation procedure is the most widely applied procedure to produce a translation that sounds natural, grateful, and successful.
