Abstract

After the delay in implementation due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) was again implemented on a wide scale in 2022. This scale is wider than the test conducted in December 2021 which was only held in 6 cities, namely Jakarta, Bandung, Medan, Malang, Palembang, and Manado, where participants were limited to those who had a population identity card according to the test location. This research focuses on how the participation of students of the UNNES Japanese Language Education Study Program in taking JLPT and what is the reason they took the test. The research approach used is quantitative with quantitative descriptive analysis techniques. The research population is a student of the Japanese Language Education Study Program and the sample is 64 people. Data collection techniques use closed questionnaires. Based on the results of the study, it is known that 92% of new students first follow JLPT.
