Abstract

For Japan, the COVID-19 pandemic was canceled the 2020 Summer Olympic. Despite of that, the Japanese are very optimistic and try to adapt in this global pandemic. One of its way is Haiku Writing Contest at Kisarazu City, Chiba Prefecture. Haiku, as a poem, needs a comprehensive analysis to know the meaning and the symbol of the language. For that reason, in this paper, literary and textual discourse of haiku is by doing semiotic discourse. The semiotic theory on this paper is semiotic theory by C.S Peirce. The analysis result about semiotic signs of the winner of Kisarazu City Haiku Writing Contest shows that there are semiotic signs, namely symbolic signs, indexical signs and iconic signs. The discourse of the haiku is 1) discourse to go back to school, 2) the beauty of life and 3) boredom during lockdown.
