Abstrak

The problem of organic waste is inseparable from daily human activities, with approximately 80% of total waste consisting of organic materials. Teba Modern is an innovation in organic waste management based on local Balinese wisdom. However, its implementation has not been fully effective due to low public awareness, resulting in the presence of non-organic waste within the Teba. Therefore, this study aims to develop and integrate an IoT-based organic waste selection system into the Teba Modern. The objectives of this research are to: (1) describe the working mechanism of the IoT-based organic waste selection system, (2) determine the accuracy level of the system, and (3) analyze the role of the system in supporting the preservation of Teba Modern as an organic waste processing facility aligned with the Tri Hita Karana concept. This study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the 4D development model. The research was conducted from September 20 to December 19, 2025, at SMA Negeri Bali Mandara, covering idea exploration, system design, testing, data collection, and report preparation. Data were collected through literature review, observation, experimentation, interviews, and documentation. The accuracy of the system was analyzed by calculating the percentage of successful waste selection during experimental testing. The results show that the system operates through a simple mechanism in which a capacitive sensor detects objects and measures capacitance values; higher capacitance indicates organic waste and triggers the automatic opening of the Teba, while non-organic waste keeps the system closed. The system achieved an accuracy rate of 75%, categorized as good. Furthermore, the system plays an important role in supporting the preservation of Teba Modern in the Society 5.0 era by enhancing local wisdom values and strengthening harmony with the Tri Hita Karana philosophy.
