Figurative language, or the manner an author describes what will be delivered, is a style of language use in essays. The use of language in certain circumstances, by specific writers, and for specific subjects is discussed in style (linguistic style).(Putra & Puspitasari, 2020). The researcher analyzing five song lyrics on Selena's "Rare" album, namely the songs Vulnerable, Bad Liar, Lose You to Love Me, Ring, and People you know. The researcher analyses figurative language expressions, namely hyperbole, simile, and repetition. After the analysis, researcher found 15 data that repetition expressions get the highest frequency, which is 6 expressions. And followed by hyperbole expressions which get 5 expressions. The lowest frequency expression is simile which get 4 data. This fact shows that figurative language is important in song lyrics. Expressions of figurative language influence song lyrics to make them more beautiful and interesting and able to insert hidden messages for listeners.
2024-12-10T00:00:00+08:00 Copyright (c) 2024 Prodi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris FKIP Universitas Mahasaraswati Denpasar https://e-journal.unmas.ac.id/index.php/joselt/article/view/10343 Maximizing the Implementation of Collaborative Learning to Improve Students’ Reading Comprehension 2024-11-30T10:56:13+08:00 Ida Bagus Nyoman Mantra bagusmantra@unmas.ac.id Ida Ayu Made Sri Widiastuti idaayuwidia@unmas.ac.id
Reading is one of the language skills that needs to be mastered by the students in language learning to enable students to communicate in English effectively. Out of a population of 413 students, a sample of 42 students was selected through random sampling to represent the group. To collect data, two key research instruments were employed: a motivation questionnaire to gauge the students' level of enthusiasm and determination and a speaking test focused on delivering a descriptive monologue to assess their oral communication skills. The data were analyzed using Pearson Product Moment Correlation in SPSS Statistics 25, which revealed a correlation coefficient of 0.673. This finding indicates a statistically significant and strong relationship between students’ motivation and their speaking ability, with the correlation classified as high (0.60–0.799). In essence, the more motivated the students were, the better their speaking ability tended to be. These results emphasize the critical role of motivation in language learning and suggest that fostering motivation could be a key strategy for improving speaking proficiency in English classes. Such insights could inform teaching strategies and highlight the importance of addressing both cognitive and affective factors in speaking classroom activities.
2024-12-10T00:00:00+08:00 Copyright (c) 2024 Prodi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris FKIP Universitas Mahasaraswati Denpasar https://e-journal.unmas.ac.id/index.php/joselt/article/view/10469 The Implementation of Preview, Question, Read, State, and Test for Teaching Reading in Junior High School 2024-12-10T14:53:16+08:00 Ni Nyoman Anggita Pramestia Dewi chrismayani@unmas.ac.id Ni Wayan Krismayani Krismayani chrismayani@unmas.ac.id Dewa Gede Agung Gana Kumara chrismayani@unmas.ac.id
Reading is a skill that people should be familiar with regularly because it is the foundation of language.
