Students’ Self-Confidence and Speaking Skill: A Correlational Study

Abstract

This study was conducted to investigate the students’ self-confidence influenced speaking skill of the eighth grade students in SMPN 2 Mengwi. A correlation research design was used in this study There were 40 students participated in this study which were chosen by using random sampling technique. The data were collected through administering questionnaires about self-confidence and speaking test as the research instruments and delivered by using WhatsApp Group platform. The obtained data were analysed by investigating the correlation between students’ self-confidence score and speaking test score which was done by using IBM SPSS Statistic 23. The correlation between students’ self-confidence and speaking skill was 0.857. It described a significant correlation between students’ self-confidence and speaking skill. In conclusion, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted.
