The data were taken from excerpts from the novel "Negeri Para Bedebah" by Tere Liye and sentences created by the researcher as a native speaker of the Indonesian language. The researcher used distribution and paraphrasing methods to address the research questions. Based on the research results, three phonological change rules were found in forming the circumfix "ke-an" from its base form to a polymorphemic word. The allomorphs are "ke-yan," "ke-wan," and "ke-Ɂan." In terms of its grammatical function, the circumfix "ke-an" was examined both derivationally and inflectionally. Based on its grammatical meaning, the circumfix "ke-an" can express at least four things, namely, expressing abstract concepts, indicating a place, indicating suffering, and indicating quality.
Dewi Herlina, Siti Sulistiyarini Copyright (c) 2024 SPHOTA: Jurnal Linguistik dan Sastra https://e-journal.unmas.ac.id/index.php/sphota/article/view/7747 Thu, 28 Mar 2024 00:00:00 +0800 Words, Sense, and Denotation Meaning in Pupuh Ginanti “Saking Tuhu Manah Guru” https://e-journal.unmas.ac.id/index.php/sphota/article/view/7068
This study aims to analyze words, sense, and denotation in Pupuh Ginanti, entitled "Saking Tuhu Manah Guru". Nonetheless, the comparative analysis of the structure, categories, and purpose of employing these linguistic blends, along with the audience's interpretations of such bilingual variations, remains somewhat limited. Consequently, the present study endeavors to contrast the distinct manifestations of CS and CM exhibited by Deddy Corbuzier and Cinta Laura, as perceived by participants. The study employed a qualitative approach where the data was analyzed with content analysis. Concurrently, participants' viewpoints regarding CS and CM were elicited through questionnaires distributed among a purposive sample of 20 individuals selected from a population of 200. The data were analyzed using a paired sample t-test. The findings of this research indicate Cinta Laura employed a greater degree of CS and CM in comparison to Deddy Corbuzier in the podcasts due to her fluency in both languages and her speech mostly indicated her social status and addressed topics of conversation. Meanwhile, Dedy Corbuzier used the variation to demonstrate solidarity and persuade the audience. The paired sample t-test revealed a significant divergence in participants' perceptions of code-switching and code-mixing between Deddy Corbuzier and Cinta Laura.
I Ketut Wardana Copyright (c) 2024 SPHOTA: Jurnal Linguistik dan Sastra https://e-journal.unmas.ac.id/index.php/sphota/article/view/8606 Thu, 28 Mar 2024 00:00:00 +0800 Examining Illocutionary Acts: Male and Female Judges’ Comments on Indonesia’s Next Top Model https://e-journal.unmas.ac.id/index.php/sphota/article/view/7176
This article delves into the linguistic and discursive aspects of communication, exploring the application of theories proposed by J.L. Austin (1975) and John Searle (1969) to understand the illocutionary acts employed by the male and female judges in Indonesia's Next Top Model. Within the context of reality television, where judgments and critiques are integral components, the language used by judges holds particular significance. This study aims to delve into the illocutionary acts employed by male and female judges in the popular television show "Indonesia's Next Top Model Cycle 3." The research method for this study employed a qualitative research approach, involved describing data from real-life situations or phenomena in their natural context within the reality show to explore the nuances and meanings of illocutionary acts in judges' comments. A sample of episodes from Indonesia's Next Top Model Cycle 3 was selected for analysis, ensuring representation of both male and female judges' comments. The dataset consisted of 266 utterances, 132 utterances from male judges' comments and 134 utterances from female judges' comments. In this study, it is found that the female judges had a greater variety of speech acts where they used all types of speech acts when giving comments. Whereas male judges only used three types of speech acts. The most dominant type of speech act of both male and female judges is assertives/representatives. It is inferred that both male and female judges are having or showing a confident and forceful personality in their utterances. In this study, it can also be seen that female judges are more to the point or overt than male judges.
Zalikha, Dian Budiarti Copyright (c) 2024 SPHOTA: Jurnal Linguistik dan Sastra https://e-journal.unmas.ac.id/index.php/sphota/article/view/7176 Thu, 28 Mar 2024 00:00:00 +0800 Makna Pupuh Pucung ‘Bibi Anu’ Pengiring Ritual Nelu Bulanin Masyarakat Hindu Bali https://e-journal.unmas.ac.id/index.php/sphota/article/view/8739
This research aims to determine the symbolic meaning of pupuh pucung entitled 'Bibi Anu' which is used as an accompaniment to nelu bulanin rituals. The data were taken from a video of the Nelu Bulanin ceremony from YouTube with the address https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TTNtDppLjc0. The data were collected by applying the observation method through watching the video, transcribing the lyrics, reading, and note-taking the words or phrases that contain symbolic meaning. There were five stanzas of pupuh pucung used as data sources. This research used a qualitative approach. The analysis was carried out by applying the cultural-linguistic theory proposed by Palmer (1996). This research shows that the lyrics of 'Bibi Anu' use linguistic units like words and phrases with symbolic meaning as a means of expressing the beliefs of Balinese Hindu society. This research has proven that Pupuh Pucung ‘Bibi Anu’ not only accompanies the ritual but is an inseparable part of the ritual itself because the lyrics contain belief values as an inseparable part of Balinese culture.
I Komang Sulatra, Desak Putu Eka Pratiwi Copyright (c) 2024 SPHOTA: Jurnal Linguistik dan Sastra https://e-journal.unmas.ac.id/index.php/sphota/article/view/8739 Thu, 28 Mar 2024 00:00:00 +0800 The Effect of Aphasia on Sixty Six Years Old in Language Acquisition https://e-journal.unmas.ac.id/index.php/sphota/article/view/7494
This study aimed to describe language impairments (motor aphasia).
